AHF-Rwanda tested people HIV/AIDS for free during Tour Du Rwanda 2019

On 02 March 2019 during Tour Du Rwanda 2019, AHF-Rwanda (Aids Health Care Foundation) tested people including youths and adults HIV/AIDS for free to help them know their status about HIV infection.

It was an occasion of AHF-Rwanda to test people due to a great number of who came to see Tour Du Rwanda 2019.

Speaking during the campaign, Dr Brenda Asiimwe Kateera, AHF-Rwanda Country Program Manager said they are not testing the general population, they are just helping few people to know their HIV status with the purpose of moving to other districts.

People participated to free HIV testing campaign during Tour Du Rwanda 2019, thanked Ministry of Healthy who thought about people to know their standing on HIV/AIDS.

Dr Brenda Asiimwe Kateera, AHF-Rwanda Country Program Manager said that they are not only working together with Cycling competition, but also other sports competition like Cricket and other ones to continue in helping the community to reduce HIV infection.

During this campaign, AHF-Rwanda distributed male&female free condoms and test for free HIV infection. AHF-Rwanda also provides Free Condom Distribution, Free circumcision and Free HIV testing to help[ Rwandans know their status about HIV infection.

Dr Brenda Assiimwe Kateera, Country Program Manager of AHF-Rwanda said they aimed at providing cutting edge medicine to people living with HIV, advising people to use condoms with the purpose of reducing the spread of HIV infection.

AHF Rwanda provides services to over 23,000 people, in 20 health facilities, across eight districts in Rwanda. Since commencement of the HIV testing program in 2006, over 600,000 people have been counseled and tested and more than 8 million condoms have been distributed through different approaches including condom dispensers placed in hot spots. AHF Rwanda has made tremendous contributions to health infrastructure and equipping of health units, through the installation of 3 CD4 machines for patient monitoring, renovation of laboratories and building of HIV clinic Gasabo District.

AHF Rwanda implements comprehensive testing models with a strong community outreach component, making services more accessible in hard-to-reach areas. AHF Rwanda works closely with local organizations, implementing programmatic activities to create a sustainable system of health impact among at-risk populations. Currently the organization partners with five community-based organizations (CBOs) across the country. These CBOs are supported to conduct mobilization, education and referral to services.

AHF Rwanda also implements various advocacy initiatives and works to influence policies in-country for the benefit of People Living with HIV (PLHIV).

In 2006, The AIDS Healthcare Foundation, commenced operations in Rwanda, in collaboration with the Government through the Ministry of Health and Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) as part of it’s global mission to provide cutting edge medicine to people living with HIV.
